Can grains of rice be transported pneumatically without damaging them?

Gericke has designed and delivered several dense phase transport systems for the transport of dry rice to the filling lines. These systems fully preserve the quality of the fragile rice grains, and increase the safety and reliability of the overall process. For a major producer of agrifood products, Gericke faced the challenge of replacing mechanical transport systems with pneumatic transport systems. The objective was to avoid the introduction of any foreign body, often associated with mechanical systems, and at the same time not to risk scratching, breaking, eroding the different types of rice transported, such as long rice, rice. basmati and risotto rice. During the evaluation phase, Gericke demonstrated, through transport tests replicating the customer's process at its main test center in Regensdorf (Switzerland), that a low speed dense phase cap transport system is ideally suited for the gentle transport of rice over distances of up to 70 m. The quality of the product obtained from the tests convinced the customer, as well as the fact that no external air injection system was necessary. In order to obtain the best possible product quality, a continuous transport system using a double pressure vessel system was chosen. In this configuration, the expansion cycle with increased velocities cannot occur. The choice of a double lock system made it possible, thanks to the limited height of the system, to fit under the existing collection hopper from which the different types of rice are introduced by the upstream process. Several PTAD-type conveyor systems now transport rice to packaging lines which are located 20 to 70 m apart and at capacities ranging from 6 to 15 t / h.
